My Leadership PhilosophyMy definition of Leadership is that it can be done by anyone, particularly those who take initiative and control of the situation, and make a positive impact. Leadership's purpose is to aid in creating good social values and reasonable social norms, and leaders should help guide society in a positive direction and make themselves a valuable resource.
Leadership is done best by having skills in organization, critical thinking, communication, listening, collaboration, and promoting metacognition. I believe this is true because you have to be self-motivated and determined to be a leader, and someone people can look up to, and it's good to think on your own thinking so you better understand yourself. Leadership is done well when a person focuses on what benefits the community more than just the self, remaining calm when things get rough, and constantly improving things more than they were before because there's always room for improvement. By constantly striving to make things better, you develop good habits, and that helps one to become a natural leader. Throughout my service work, community project, and workshops I've attended, I think my definition of leadership has partially changed, but mostly stayed the same. What I think has changed is realizing that leaders don't necessarily need to reflect the characteristics of a "supervisor" or "manager," leaders are all around us and it's because each person has their own talents and strengths--which can make them a leader in that field. I think that by being a natural leader, you attract others into your life because they're interested in what you're doing and see you as a motivator or innovator. By just being encouraging and supportive and sticking to one's duties, that already makes a person a leader. I've learned that being a leader takes time to develop and can be difficult, but by staying in a determined and positive mindset, I can accomplish anything and make things work for the community as well as myself.
